In 1987 JCB employees united in their commitment to raise funds for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). A fundraising committee involving employees at all levels was formed and the following year £250,000 was raised for the Stoke-on-Trent branch of the charity.

In 1995 staff efforts ensured a further £200,000 was collected before the fundraisers set themselves an even greater challenge. In October 2000, after a year-long programme, employees had raised £1 million for the JCB/NSPCC Digging Deep campaign, a sum matched by Sir Anthony personally. The money funded the charity’s Sexually Harmful Behaviour Service in Stafford and employees went on to raise a further £20,000 to enable an extension to be completed. In 2002 the charity received a further £50,000 from JCB, enough money to help more than 30 victims of child abuse.

Earlier this year Lady Bamford was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for services to children and families.

JCB CHARITY DRAW RAISES £45,000 FOR THE NSPCC

JCB employee George Painter today (20th December 2006) drove off in a new BMW – thanks to a company draw which has raised £45,000 for the NSPCC. The car was the top prize in JCB's NSPCC Full Stop Campaign Lottery set up by Lady Bamford, OBE, wife of JCB Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford. The draw culminated in a special presentation when Malcolm Fox, Managing Director of JCB World Brands, presented the keys of the stylish silver BMW 116i Sport to George, a Structural Engineer in JCB’s Loadall Business Unit based at Rocester.

Lady Bamford said: “This has been a fantastic fund-raising campaign and to have raised £45,000 for the NSPCC, especially at Christmas, is really something for our employees to be proud of, particularly as every penny raised will go towards helping vulnerable children. The response to the appeal was excellent and I’d like to thank all employees who gave so generously.”
George, 34, of Newport, Shropshire, said: “I supported the NSPCC lottery because it is such a good cause and Christmas is a time of year when you naturally think of people who are less fortunate than yourself. I was surprised but delighted to hear I’d won the first prize and I’m looking forward to enjoying the car. My girlfriend lives in Northamptonshire and my sister lives near Loch Lomond so I’ve plenty of reasons to travel around!”
